Beto Announces Marijuana Legalization Plan

The Primary: Democratic presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke unveiled his plan to legalize recreational marijuana on Thursday. 

• Who? What? Why?: The plan is more than just letting you get legally ripped, though. Beto wants to tax the weed industry to help repay people who served prison time for nonviolent marijuana charges. 

• The Baseline: Beto is not by any means the only candidate to support legalizing marijuana. But he is one of only three candidates, including Cory Booker and Kamala Harris, who wants to give people with weed convictions a clean slate, per Wapo. 

• What Beto's saying: “We need to not only end the prohibition on marijuana, but also repair the damage done to the communities of color disproportionately locked up in our criminal justice system or locked out of opportunity because of the War on Drugs," said Beto in a statement.
